Making Veins Vanish

Small purple, red or blue veins mar the legs of many, and can form anywhere from the top of the thigh to the bottom of the ankle. Others have larger, dark blue veins protruding from the surface of their legs. Although these spider and varicose veins do not pose any major health problem, they can be a source of discomfort and embarrassment.
What causes spider or varicose veins to develop? Heredity certainly seems to be a factor, but hormone levels, trauma to a leg, or pronounced periods of standing (or sitting!) also seem to contribute.
The good news is that with minimal discomfort, there are effective treatments that can rid you of these unsightly veins (which are not essential to blood circulation in the legs).
Our physicians now have a new weapon against bothersome leg veins! Our sophisticated laser light system fades scattered small and ultra-small spider veins of the leg, as well as small blue veins. Some larger blue veins that appear as a “blush” area, and leg veins that do not respond to traditional treatment, are often successfully diminished with this laser system.
In the hands of our expert physicians, treatment of stubborn veins consists of a coherent laser light beam that is directed onto the skin and is absorbed by the blood’s hemoglobin. Visible veins shrink and fade from view! The blood flow and surrounding veins are not harmed by treatment.
The system’s smooth-pulse technology generates treatment pulses at intervals of once per second, which helps keep the skin from becoming too hot and minimizes the risk of skin damage. Meanwhile, the system’s sophisticated cooling system keeps the cooled hand piece in contact with the skin, soothing the treated area and allowing for greater patient comfort. Leg vein treatment with this advanced system brings reliable results.
Sclerotherapy is an advanced procedure that is the first choice and most cost effective for treating the majority of spider and varicose veins. Using very fine needles, a solution is injected directly into the vein by the doctor. This pushes the blood out, causing the vein to blanch and visually disappear.
Affiliated Dermatology's physicians have helped thousands rid themselves of the embarrassment caused by spider and varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is performed in one of our outpatient centers. The length of the procedure is dependent on how many vessels are to be treated. Most patients feel little discomfort during the procedure. Patients can be up on their feet for 12 to 14 hours the day after Sclerotherapy. The exact treatment regimen required to eliminate your spider or varicose veins will be discussed during your consultation with one of our doctors. Since larger veins and fine networks of veins require multiple therapies to gain the best results, winter is a great time to start Sclerotherapy and tune up your legs for spring! |
